Hello Wayne and welcome to Feldgrau!

Karl-Ludwig Kegel receieved the Ritterkreuz (Knight's Cross) on 25.08.1941 as a Leutnant commanding the 5./Pz.Rgt. 18 (18. Pz.Div.).

Kegel was born in Eisleben on 10.05.1918 and was killed in action on 01.01.1943 at Certkovo (Eastern front). His last rank was that of Hauptmann and at the time he commanded the 5.(Pz.)/Führer-Begl.Btl. Source: Veit Scherzer's "Ritterkreuzträger 1939-1945" (2005).

Hello again Wayne!

Eisleben is located in Sachsen-Anhalt, which is in central/eastern Germany, and which was part of East Germany, DDR, during the Cold War. It's mainly known for being the place of birth of Martin Luther. See link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eisleben
