Hello,

It might be Oberst Helmuth Witt of the 134. Artillerieregiment.
He succesfully commanded a group of soldiers that fought their way back to the german lines after the destruction of the 134th division in 1944.

He received the Ehrenblattspange on 25rd march 1944 and the KC on 27th July 1944 for his actions during the escape from byelorussia in June-July 1944. Both as commander of the 134. AR.

The Div.Hist mentions that he went on as a frontofficer, it doesn't however specify in what capacity.

Just to add on to Eric's Witt....

Helmut Witt also recieved the DKiG on 15.12.1941 as a Hauptmann commanding II./AR 104.

Hello everybody
I too am puzzled about Oberst Witt.
Ob. Witt Helmuth was an Art.Officer in 44 and I doubt he could be Stopak in 45.
Same story for Ob. Witt Kurt who was a Fest.Pionier-officer in 44.
Besides I have an Ob. Witt as CO of GR.896 (265.ID) in Aug. 44 and also an Ob. Witt (Witte ?)
CO. of area Duisburg-Düsseldorf on mid-april 45.
Can anybody clear whether he is the same man (name ?) in all 3 positions (GR.896, stopak, area-CO) or 2-3 more different Witts (names ?) ? I hope You can help. Thanks to all. Rossano

Jan-Hendrik,

The Oberstleutnant Witt was already the Stopak of the 2. Armee in 1944.
I have him listed in the Stellenbesetzung of the Armee as of 9.3.1944, 15.5.1944 and 15.8.1944.
It seems he got promoted along the way to Oberst.
By the way, he had to perform his task as Stabsoffizier für Panzerbekämpfung without the authorized Adjutant.
