THE TANK ACES.

Post by Shadow »

Greetings Troops - :D

The following is a continuation of a thread originally posted under the Waffen-SS section of this forum re: "tank aces".

I've attempted to compile a list of all the information submitted there for the German Tank Aces of WWII.

The list below reads (from left to right):
- individual's Last Name
- individual's First Name
- number of Kills
- individual's unit
- Knight's Cross date (if applicable)
- Oakleaves date (if applicable)
- Swords date (if applicable)

** I have taken the liberty of posting the lists in two forms:
1. Alphabetical by last name.
2. Numerical by number of "kills"

** As new information comes in I will continue to update both lists and indicate, on this thread, when these updates occur.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO BRING ANY ERRORS - OMMISSIONS - ALTERATIONS - TYPOS - etc.etc.etc. TO MY ATTENTION AND I WILL KEEP UPDATING THE LIST AS WE GO ALONG. WHEN WE ALL FEEL THAT THE LIST IS AS ACCURATE AS POSSIBLE I WILL CONTACT JASON re: HIS OFFER TO SUBMIT IT TO THE MAIN FELDGRAU.COM SITE FOR OTHERS TO ENJOY. PLEASE HELP WITH AS MUCH INFORMATION AS YOU HAVE BECAUSE I KNOW RELATIVELY LITTLE ON THIS SUBJECT.

Best regards, and looking forward to hearing from all of you:

Maybe you mean ANTI-Tank Aces.......... :?

Mooyman, Bruins and Schrijnen for instances were anti-tank personnel.

An impressive list!

An impressive list Shadow, well done! I am only new to this great site but am already most impressed with the quality & quantity of Third Reich info (especially the WAFFEN SS, which is my special area of interest). A great post :D
Cheers from Down Under in Australia,
Craig.

Greetings "Kameraden" and "Ritter" - :D

I guess the original thread (over at Waffen-SS section) was aimed primarily at those individuals credited with killing opposing tanks. I notice, however, that some of the "credits" given to "aces" are for any form of AFV destroyed. I need some clarification on this.

I'm hoping the others (Wolfkin, charlie don't surf, Timo, Commissar D, et.al.) will dive in here with more information - I'm just going to act as the secretary of this little effort. I admit to knowing nothing about this particular subject, which is a great advantage. I get to yell "Beats Me!" when asked any difficult questions - .

Now, having admitted my ignorance, I guess what I need from the rest of you is accurate information. I suggest that everyone take a gander at the original thread to familiarize themselves with what the original intention of the question was. I admit that in this compilation I've included the members of the Heeres, when orginally it was supposed to be only about the Waffen-SS "aces"; but, I hope I can be forgiven.

Does this answer anyones question? ........ "Beats Me"! - :D

Best regards -

p.s. - "Craig": Thanks! .... and "cheers mate"!!

Hi Shadow.

Well if you clarify exactly what your looking for then we can add or delete names from your List.

I take it we are using both Waffen-SS and Heer Troops?
So what do you want the list to be.

Purely Tank Aces(Killing Tanks with other Tanks)
Anti Tank Gunners
Kills using Handheld Weapons?

Or a mixture of all 3??

Anyway i notice you do have a few Anti-Tank Gunners in the list at present.
In that case you have missed out Fritz Christen.

...They are, with others (Sigurd Helge for example), the ones who made the list in the first place. The making of this list goes back to an innitiative started by David four years ago on the old forum.

Hello Timo - :D

I just finished PM'ing with Commissar D over at AHF. And, as I informed him, I've made a list of EVERY SINGLE CONTRIBUTOR FROM AHF AND FELDGRAU THAT TOOK PART IN THIS "ACES" RESEARCH ....... and I plan to give all these people (especially David) due credit when this thing is done. I WANT NO CREDIT!! I'm only doing this to kill time while I go through radiation therapy for cancer!! I have no intention of doing anything other than assisting everybody in putting together as complete a list as can be done. I know that there are numerous lists floating around .... but nobody seems to have taken the time to meld them all together into one "super list".

IF ANYONE HAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS ...... I WILL BE HAPPY TO STOP RIGHT HERE - THE SUBJECT ACTUALLY BORES ME TO TEARS!!

Best regards to all -

Hi "Kameraden" - :D

.... quote "Beats ME" ......

If everyone is in agreement, how about we keep the list to all members of the Heeres and Waffen-SS who DESTROYED OTHER TANKS using Panzers, StuG's, and Anti-Tank weapons, in which case Fritz will most definitely be added to the list. Lets not list every soldier who knocked out a tank with a panzerfaust (handheld weapons).

How does that sit with everybody???

p.s. - I added Christen to the Master File just now anyway to see if my "edit" functions still worked.

Hi Schadowy,

maybe a few suggestions:
- list only those aces which have a confirmed number of kills (the ones without questionmark like the first four on your last list)
- it would also be great to list sources for the number of kills for each panzer ace (I guess this would be very difficult :( );
- since the list is for Panzer aces, why not stick only to Panzer, PzJäg or Stug aces and leave out Pak aces or Panzerknackers,
- scratch the following names (Johann Müller, Karl Mobius, Walter Schroif, Uscha Oberhaber, Joachim Scholl, Dieter Ustuf, Oskar Geiner - for explanation see the previous thread in the W-SS section :( ).
- get well

cheers

Greetings "Marko",

Your wish is my command !!

1. Panzer, Pz.Jag., and StuG. aces are just fine with me. Anything that you guys feel comfortable with I'm glad to oblige.
2. Sources for the number of kills is, indeed, a huge effort .... but ..... if everybody out there wants to give me the statistics, I'd be more than happy to incorporate the info. into the list somehow.
3. The names you listed have been scratched .... as per previous thread explanation - thanks for that!

Thanks for joining in -
Best regards -

Great!

I made some further research about "my panzer ace" from SS-Pz.Rgt.9 - Dahlkem. According to Herr Herbert Fürbringer (9.SS-Panzer-Division) he died on 29.06.1944 in Normandy but there is no Dahlkem listed in Volksbund :? . There is however a certain Letnant Erwin Dahlke listed in their database. He died that same day and is burried in La Cambe - so it could well be that this is our man :D . Hopefully someone can shed some more light on this Leutnant - like was he really a Hohenstaufer?

cheers
