There was no Stalag 1377 (4-digit numbers were not used), 137 or 377. However, there was a Frontstalag numbered 137. It was formed 18 August 1940 in Wehrkreis IV. There is no record of its employment. On 22 March 1941 it was renamed Dulag 137 and transferred East for the forthcoming attack on the USSR.

diverden -

I just checked this reference that contains all of the Wehrmacht units in France by city, town and village and there is no entry for Avesnes or for Avesnes-sur-Helpe. France is in Teil 4, pages 35 - 138, 103 pages, 3 columns per page.

Tessin, Georg. Verbände und Truppen der deutschen Wehrmacht und Waffen-SS im Zweiten Weltkrieg 1939-1945.
Band 16. Verzeichnis der Friedensgarnisonen 1932-1939 und Stationierungen im Kriege 1939-1945.
Teil 1: Wehrkreise I – VI. Osnabrück: Biblio Verlag, 1996. ISBN: 3-7648-1745-3. Hb. 365p.
Teil 2: Wehrkreise VII – XIII. Osnabrück: Biblio Verlag, 1996. ISBN: 3-7648-1745-3. Hb. 354p.
Teil 3: Wehrkreise XVII, XVIII, XX, XXI und besetzte Gebiete Ost und Südost. Osnabrück: Biblio Verlag, 1996. ISBN: 3-7648-1745-3. Hb. 414p.
Teil 4: Besetzte Gebiete Nord/West/Süd. Osnabrück: Biblio Verlag, 1997. ISBN: 3- 7648-1745-3. Hb. 380p. Place name index (to all 4 parts).

However, I did find a separate section in Teil 4 entitled Belgien - Nordfrankreich (pp.139-68) which has this for 1940:

Avesnes-le-Comte (18 km W of Arras)
Ortskommandantur (I) 642 Avesnes-le-Comte
Ortskommandantur (I) 693 Avesnes-le-Comte
Feldkommandantur 678 Avesnes-le-Comte (1940-41)
Kreiskommandantur 642 Avesnes-le-Comte (21.5.40 - 10.1.42)

avesnes le comte is looking like the right area, but the reference to stalag 1377 is driving me mad, after a closer look at the document it could possibly be 1077 but this is still four digits long

Sorry but its a wrong number. The stalag 1377 doesn't exist, neither 1077.
Kindly regards

Hi Divender,
I saw on an other forum:
http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/60582-stalag-1377/
that your fathers name was Sydney Wilson and that is was wouded in the vicinity of Avesnes (France) on the 26th of may 1940.
He was admitted in a KriegsLazarett ( German Mil.Hospital) numbered 1377, but it could be also 1.377 or 1/377.
I was also thinking about a number of an "ArbeitsKommando" (Labour Group).
Hope it helps for your search
Kindly regards from Belgium

Not a Kriegslazarett. These were all numbered between 501 to 943.

Who says we're not at war with Russia! 75% of the international crime currently plaguing the West originates in Russia or from the hands of the Russian Mafia. We are being slowly destroyed by criminals without a shot being fired.
