Hello to all
: a little query about this unit earlier in Barbarossa................
Stug Abt 243 in Oleszyce - 22 Jun 1941.
Oleszyce - June 22, 1941.
At the start of the Operation Barbarossa, the Stug. Abt. 243 was attached to the IV. AK and then fought in support of the 24. ID, while the 1./ Stug. Abt. 243 was attached to the XXXXIX Geb. AK and supported the 1. GD in the first moments of the campaign. AFAIK the 1. GD crossed the border on June 22, 1941 around Futory with the GJR 98 heading towards Lubaczow and the GJR 99 towards Oleszyce; it seems the latter regiment had the support of the 1. battery of Stug Abt 243
From the history of the Soviet Rifle Div 97 we have:
The Rifle Reg 69 deployed in the Sector Dachnów - Oleszyce (Дахнув - Олешице). On June 22, 1941 at 06:42 hours strong contingent of enemy troops and tanks (assault guns) raided Oleszyce. The II. Battalion of Captain Chernysh fought in the streets of the town, while the battalions of captains Zaychenko and Salnikov fought delaying actions in Dachnow area.
