Re: Totenkopf Standarte Breslau 1939

Hi,

SS-Totenkopf-Infanterie-Ersatzbataillon I was there from 20.10.1939 onwards. This was the first of several such training and replacement units for the division.

Re: Veterans and soldiers of II.Abt./SS-Pz.Rgt.1 1942-1980

Additional question/riddle: SS-Oberscharführer dr. Peter Haußer was killed in action on 31.07.1943 at Stepanowka. He had already been with II.Abteilung/SS-Pz.Rgt.1 since summer 1942 in France, when the unit was formed. However, at that date the LSSAH was already on it's way to Italy. The offensive a...

Veterans and soldiers of II.Abt./SS-Pz.Rgt.1 1942-1980

Hello everybody, I recently got a hold of several photos/documents compiled after the war by several LAH veterans from II.Abt./SS-Pz.Rgt. 1. The officers are easily to research but I'm interested if anyone here has additional information on the soldiers and Unterführer that appear. I would assume no...

Re: Suicides of Das Reich officers

Wow, just found this ancient thread whilst searching for Schultz. The reasons for his suicide were double. Max Schultz was homosexual, this was seemingly well known within the ,,Das Reich" officer corps. It appearantly wasn't so much of a problem, apart from it being it a joking matter from tim...

Opinions: photo book on SS-Ostuf. Roland Paul (DKiG)?

Hey everybody (especially the Feldgrau authors!), I own the wartime photo album and hundreds of loose photos of SS-Ostuf. Roland Paul, a DKiG-winner from ,,Das Reich” (SS-StuG-Abt. 2) and in fact one of the high scoring SS-Panzerasse with at least 37 confirmed kills. Though he is among the German ta...

If you could have a clearer scan of the Ärmelband, yes, then is unit would be know and it would be (grosso modo) able to say where he was wounded. There is no way of being sure just by looking at these photos that he was Rttf. at the end of the war, he might have been promoted to Uscha. Very little ...

"M.Wittmann" is incorrect. That is not the Allgemeines-Sturmabzeichen. It's the Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in Silber, which means your uncle served in a non-motorized unit at some time to be awarded this Orden. To the right is the SA-Wehrsportabzeichen and to the left is a Verwundeten-Abzei...

They are civilian "pins", not cufflinks. FM = Fördernde Mitglieder. They were the "supporting members" of the SS, they paid a monthly sum to the organisation. This pin also shows the wearer was a member of the SS.

At first glance it would appear that this Landser was a Rottenführer (zugleich Unterführeranwärter) with the Verw.-Abz.i.Silber (?). In the first photo he wears an Ärmelband, so if you would manage to enlarge that particular part of the photo, his division would be known.

you took out one fragment of the My bottom-line in my second, more detailed posting was that those attacks (once again, note that my reference was to their attacks, not themselves) were "ill-prepared, clumsy, frontal attacks." I stand behind that assessment. Well, that's a already more ra...

Fair enough. First of all, perhaps I should apologize for my language -- I wrote that post Friday evening after a half-bottle of good merlot. In any event -- please see the rather lengthy response below. I appreciate your reply. Late on 8 June, the 7th Canadian Infantry Brigade, was the furthermost...

I'm a Canadian, so I should post something about the repeated, absolutely pig-headed , unsophisticated , pointlessly studpid , head-on charges SS units mounted against Norman villages turned into strongpoints by good Canadian infantry battalions in places like PUTOT-EN-BASSIN. Why don't we hear mor...

Gösta Borg? He was a good friend of one of my best friends (also a Kriegsberichter). They stayed in touch after the war and he told me a lot about Borg. You can be proud of your cousin's grandfather. He saved my friend's life who was lying wounded in the line of fire. Simply ran up to him and pulled...

These are the same quiet older gentlemen who provide funding for the growing movement in Germany Really? Do tell more?? Don't mind Mr. Orzel, he's a simple provocator, look at his previous postings. His insults against the German people as a whole come straight of out some abject communist textbook...
