Nazi Embassies, 1945

What would have been the fate of the various foreign embassies of the Third Reich in 1945? The ambassadors, diplomats and staff suddenly find themselves representing a regime that no longer exists. Did they stay in their respective countries of posting, or get repatriated to Germany to face an uncer...

Could it have been the blond haired kid who died in square and had his lip extended over the ground to make it look gory?
Yes, that's the chap.

Re: Leo Kessler?

Hello, after reading some Hassel novels I discovered a similar author: Leo Kessler with his stories about an assault regiment Wotan. Does anyone of you know them? Yes, I was a big Kessler fan in the seventies, but I have not read any of the more recent Wotan titles. I have some trouble with the chr...

LSSAH and Das Reich in Russia 1942

In the Waffen SS histories that I have read so far, the activities of Leibstandarte and Das Reich in Russia in 1942 tend to be quickly glossed-over. There tends to be a leap from the battle of Rostov in November 1941, to the transfer of Leibstandarte to France for refit, then all of a sudden it's Fe...

German POWs in 1940

When the British evacuted from France in 1940, did they bring any captured Germans with them, from either Wehrmacht or Waffen SS?

Hey , nothing against DiLaurentis "Waterloo" , there is no classical War movie that could top this one Great movie, but a slightly anachronistic note was struck by the young British soldier with the anti-war attitude, shouting about why are we killing each other, in the midst of battle. I...

War in Carinthia?

In fiction, I have come across fleeting reference to a "shadowy little war in Carinthia", fought just after World War One, as the new Yugoslavia sought to add Carinthia to its territory, and the Carinthians weren't having this. I have also seen brief reference to a Carinthian Freikorps, bu...

Luftwaffe Field Units

I have long been puzzled by the concept of Luftaffe field units. I mean, if they were equipped as infantry, and fought as infantry, why not just transfer them to the Wehrmacht or Waffen SS? What did their ground combat duties have to do with being in an airforce?
Same page as the bloke in the saggy looking uniform made out out italian camouflage pattern canvas...
Yes, that's the book. The camouflage guy is taken from a photo of dejected-looking Wehrmacht POWs.

SS Cavalry question

Did SS cavalry (or indeed Wehrmacht cavalry?) ever fight from horseback, or was the horse used purely as a means of transport?

A Puzzling Waffen SS Uniform

In the Blandford book on World War Two uniforms (published in the 70s), I have seen an illustration of what purports to be a Waffen SS officer serving in Italy in 1945. He wears the usual grey tunic, but with a tropical 1943-pattern "ski-cap", tropical shorts, and what look like hobnailed ...
