Bayerischer Heimatschutz

During an american interview after the war, an officer stated that he been part of the
"Bavarian Home Guard, under Dr Escherich".
Was that really an independent body, or is it just an English translation of "Bayerischer Heimatschutz”?

In September 1940, 4 would-be spies were dropped by boat on the English coast.(they left from Etaples, on the channel, where I come from). Their history is well documented: they lasted 48 hours.
