Re: Narvik Shield

He and his friends must have been members of the elite Taureg Brigade which saw action at Narvik.

Re: Lazarett Taganrog

Otto: Your Grandfather was in the Heer not the Waffen SS. The Edelweiss might indicate he was with a Gebirgsjager unit. I am not sure which ones might have fought around Taganrog. I will keep looking. Best wishes.

Re: Interrogation report, where to look and find?

Alex: It appears that the 19th Armored Infantry Battalion of the US 14th Armored Division took Germersheim about the time your grandfather was taken prisoner. Best wishes.

Re: Interrogation report, where to look and find?

Alex: His interrogation records would probably be found at the US National Archives with the records of the Division, Regiment, Battalion, etc. which captured him. I will try to see which US units were in Germersheim at that time. Best wishes.

Surrender of 11th PzD

Does anyone have information about the surrender of the 11th PzD at the end of the war? According to a private account I read the 11th would only surrender to the US 90th ID, due to their respect for the 90th. And when the 11th did surrender they did so in formation and in a well-groomed condition. ...

Re: Jagdpanthers from the 10.SS Frundsberg

Hello Joachim: Yes, both 10.SS PzD and 7.PzD did receive Jagdpanthers in Feb 1944. Both got 10 Jagdpanthers. The first strength report for Frundsberg which included the jagdpathers was from March of 1945; if I remember correctly. I am trying to locate that report. I am not sure when the 7.PzD jagdpa...

Re: Nachschub versus Versorgung units

Hello Dan: As far as I know Nachschub and Versorgungs mean the same thing. There may be a subtle difference between the two terms, but I do not know of it. Perhaps there was just a change of terminology within the Wehrmacht at some point. As to the second part of your question a Zug is a platoon and...

Re: Halftracks during defense

Hi: I hope your searching our archive is helping with your research. I would imagine that the location of half-tracks would be determined by what armament was on them, and the availability of positions which would provide concealment and/or survivability to the vehicle. Certainly a commander would w...

Re: Heeres-Artillerie-Brigade 959

Hello Andy:
Wow!! You had quite a few relatives who served in the war; thank you for sharing this information. I have been to two German cemeteries in Europe maintained by the Volksbund; both were very beautiful and peaceful places. Best wishes.
