Was there any direct links between the American Bund & the Nazis? History Channel did a program on the history of the American Nazi Party. The answer is yes, there were links. Many members of the Bund were interned during the war. I woudn't trust the history channel too much, they made numerous...

Ferret, I have to disagree with you. The charge shown took place in the Crimea against Russian troops. The absurdity was that the Regiment's arch-enemy, an Indian who had betrayed and massacred British soldiers and civilians, was with the Russians as a visiting observer - and the soldiers knew it! ...

Dirlewanger Brigade was really worst. And RONA . Kaminski was so brutal that even Germans couldn't hold this and shooted him in 1944 (official for stealing but real reason was rape on German girls from auxilliary organisation). Agreed. The worst attrocities took place in Warsaw during the suppressi...

An interesting, though fictional account is told in "Soldiers of Orange" about a group of Dutch friends who choose different sides during the war. One joins the Waffen SS and fights in Russia while another flees to Britian to fight for the government in exile.

Simply put: Because Hitler was a fool who put racial ideology ahead of practicality. If Hitler would not have been so pig headed he could very easily have enlisted widespread popular support in fighting Stalin. Not only could he enlist large numbers of Soviet Citizens in his armed forces but he coul...

A gigantic one: The Film Classic Charge of the Light Brigade was shown to have taken place in India. The actual Charge of the Light Brigade was during the battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War. The enemy was Russian and not Indian. Whats more, there were no Indians serving in the British Army which...

Are you sure he's referring to US Marines? There were certainly amphibious operations in Italy by the Royal Marines. I am certain. In the book "Monte Cassino" there is a subplot about a roguish German Major who was a member of the US Marines but later deserted and joined the Nazis. Of cou...

My late father met Douglas MacArthur. He was digging a trench in Australia and said the famous General was no more than 10 feet from him as he past by. My aunt's husband was an honor guard at the White House and knew both Roosevelt and Truman. He told me that Roosevelt treated everyone like dirt but...

United States Marine Corps

Were there any operations by the US Marines in the European Theater during WW II? I was reading Sven Hassel's account of Monte Cassino where he describes a beach landing by Marines. Hassel's stories are fiction, I know this to be true. But maybe there is some truth to this account.

As an option to enduring the notoriously wretched military prisons, men convicted for any but the worst crimes under §175 could petition to join the "cannon-fodder" battalions. Commanders mercilessly used such troops in battles that in most cases were suicide missions. I suppose that it p...

Homosexuals in the German Army

http://andrejkoymasky.com/mem/holocaust/05/ho05c.html I found the above article to be rather interesting about a rather unknown subject. I was wondering what particular units accepted homosexuals. I do know that Dirlewanger steadfastly refused to admit homosexuals in his unit (though he allowed ever...

I have an interst in the war in general. I have been called a Nazi but in a joking way by friends who find my interest in the war to be odd. I also read some books on the red army and have several badges I bought on ebay and was also called a communist once. But my interest is purely out of a sort o...
