Re: Axis History Forum

Thank you very much, Brother Bob. I appreciate the tipoff and am glad my enforced idleness is at an end.
I look forward to your future mellifluous posts on both forums.

Right on, Brother Bob- I'm wondering also. It's one day short of two weeks it's been down. Very unusual.

Re: orgaisation of the LVI. Panzerkorps, June 1 1944

I am not sure that III Panzerkorps was actually in command of 6th, 7th and 17th Panzer and 20th Pz Gren Divs on 1 June 1944. The 15-5-44 OKH schematische Kriegsgliederung shows the Korps HQ and these divisions in 1st Panzer Army Reserve. The 15.6.44 schem. Kgl. shows the Corps HQ and 1st, 7th, 8th a...

Re: General Georg Stumme

German HPA documents are famous for giving the date a general was ORDERED to command a unit and that's the date we usually find in the secondary sources. The best way to find when he actually took command is the unit's Kriegstagesbuch.

Re: General Georg Stumme

Not to belabor the point, but when itler fired Hoth at 4th Panzerarmee, it took an awful long time to get his replacement there. He was actually in command until 3-12-43, long after most records indicate. Could be the same with Stumme.

Re: NARA Rolls - FTP Server

I'm having trouble figuring out how to sign in to your downloads. When I use jccalvin.ddns.net I get address not found. If I use the usual format [email protected] I get some hosting company. Can you help me to access your downloads?

thanks,

Re: Balck's "Order in Chaos" to be published in English!

So when, oh when, are Paul Hausser's memoirs going to be translated? Seems Schiffer or some similar military publisher should be interested in doing it.

If you're looking for a particular title, try http://www.abebooks.com Someone found one for me last week, so I went on there. You can get used books for really low prices. The one I got ran from $8-$40. For research, all I'm worried about it being able to read it, so I got the $8 one! Ah heck, I ju...

Re: Rolf Hinze

The best book I've read on the destruction of Army Group Center is Gerd Niepold's "Battle for White Russia" but then again it's solid facts and sometimes day by day and hour by hour accounts of the battle. Anyone wanting to have an excellent account of movements of the German divisions, et...

Axis History Forum

Would anyone be in the know about what's going on with Axis History Forum? It's been down since at least Sunday- I hadn't accessed if for a while before that.

Re: General Georg Stumme

Lexikon, like Axis History Factbook, isn't always accurate. I can throw in another source, Bender's Panzertruppe book, which may not be any more accurate but he says Stumme was in command until 20 July. Someone may have the HPA commander assignments for the Corps or either officer's HPA card from NA...

Re: 148 reserve and 189 reserve divisions

Though it didn't start out as one of those divisions mentioned, 157. Reserve Division (later Gebirgs-Division) was involved in the big fight with the maquis at Vercours.
