Re: Tank Strength and Types in 21PD and 25PzGD-Nordwind
I have only just come across this thread and was amazed to read Kamen saying that 25 PGD only had four "infantry" battalions, its two Panzergrenadier Regiments each had three battalions because it was after all a Panzergrenadier Division whose regiments had three battalions each. The III....

Re: Schartenbrecher!
Raoul, it only becomes an "embrassure" when combined with "festungs". There is no doubt that the vehicle was ordered in September with the Maginot Line in mind but I have never seen it called this until you quoted this book, surely it is a bit late in the day for someone to be in...

Re: Schartenbrecher!
Raúl, where did you get that name "Schartenbrecher" ? I have never heard it before and it doesn't mean what you think it means. A "scharten" is a notch or nick in something. I fortification terms if combined with "Scheiss" it means an embrassure.

Re: Romanian mobile unit with 11 Army Oct-Nov 1941
As I understand it this was what the Romanians called the "Korne Mechanised Detachment" commanded by Colonel Radu Korne. He had his own 6th Motorised Rosiori Regiment, the 2nd, 3rd and 5th Mechanised Squadrons (with 18 R1), a motorised Pioneer Platoon and a section of truck borne 75mm Guns...

Re: 25th Panzergrenadier Division
I have been looking at the Meldung and Gliederung dated 1st March and 1st April 1945 for 25 PGD and am a little confused. On 1st April Pz Abt 5 is shon as having five companies, the three Panther Companies, the Jagdpanzer IV Company and a fifth which has no vehicle type noted, no LMG numbers noted w...

Re: Sinking of 2 Panzer-Div 20/21 May 1941
Apparently the wrecks of these vessels have been located in 300 meters of water off the Greek coast. One ship has broken in 3 pieces spilling panzers onto the sea floor I presume the wrecks would be protected as war graves but there would be a lot of excellent armour down there! Hvaing read all of ...

Re: 320th Berlin Infantry Division
No British Regiments in WW2 were "sponsored" by a private individual, that was a thing from a couple of hundred years before.
There were two German Infantry Divisions which used the Green Heart as a sign, 87th and 134th, but neither of these was raised in Berlin.

Re: 320th Berlin Infantry Division
I'm afraid that you are showing a lack of understanding of the British and German systems in WW2. It was a couple of hundred years ago that British Colonels "owned" their regiments . The Heer Grossdeutschland units also recruited throughout Germany regardless of Wehrkries. Neither of these...

No they weren't issued with a third MG, they had to take one of the other two out and use that, but I'll be darned if I can remember which one !

Re: Sicherungs-Brigade 74
If you follow the link on the bottom of the Gliederung for the Aufkl Abt you'll see that the claim is made for the 24 armoured cars to be a mix of SdKfz 222 and Panhard 178. The Gliederung has them as 18 x 2cm armed cars and 6 x MG armed cars so either none of them were Panhards or they only had MGs...

Re: Panzer Assault Badge
As the Pz.aufkl.kp. was exclusively outfitted with Sdkfz 250/251's Except for the ones outfitted with VW or Schwimmwagen of course, The vehicle in which he travelled did not make any difference to a man involved in an Infantry Assault as far as the award went. Just why would an infantryman, by what...
