Re: Wanted: name of border village in Ukraine(Siedlungshauptamt)

Hi Linkar/Njorl, Today I actually received several research docs from RuSHA and some of these indicate that the person that I am investigating was in stationed temporary in "Kriwin bei Ostrog, SS-Unterkunftsheim". So Linkar - you nailed it! Thank you both very much for assisting in this :...

Re: Wanted: name of border village in Ukraine(Siedlungshauptamt)

By the way, Rovno was a Polish city prior to 1939. Here's a map of 1939 Poland: Poland1939_physical.jpg Rovno was Rowne at the time. Kryvyn was a short distance east of town of Ostrog (Ostroh), which was on Polish-Ukrainian border. If the author of your letter referred to the pre-1939 Polish borders...

Re: Wanted: name of border village in Ukraine(Siedlungshauptamt)

Not very readable...

How about Kriwin (Kryvyn in today's Ukraine)? The problem is that Kryvyn (or Staryi Kryvyn) is quite away from the Polish border. It's south of Rivne (Rovno in Russian, Rowno in German). But Rowno was the capital of Reichcommissariat Ukraine.

Re: Wanted: name of border village in Ukraine(Siedlungshauptamt)

Could it be Korczmin in Poland near the border with Ukraine? Remarkably, Korczmin website has both Polish and Ukrainian versions.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korczmin
http://www.korczmin.pl/

If you could scan the document with the place name and post the image here, it could help a bit.

Re: Regiment 252 Chuduilicha 1942

Glad to help, Ingineu! The book by Horst Grossmann, Rzhew: The Cornerstone of the Eastern Front, is available in German on Amazon.de http://www.amazon.de/Rshew-Horst-Grossmann/dp/B0000BITGH/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1301201972&sr=1-7 I think there are archives in Germany that might ...

Re: Regiment 252 Chuduilicha 1942

Also, here is a Russian translation of a book on Rzhew battles by Horst Grossman, General, with a chapter describing in detail the battles on the river Luchesa from November 25, 1942 till December 31, 1942. It mentions the village Chuidulicha (Khudilikha, Худулиха). If you click on the blue number 1...

Re: Regiment 252 Chuduilicha 1942

Hello Ingineu, The village Chuduilicha (Khudulikha or Худулиха in Cyrillic) does not exist anymore, but I found its cooridnates in this article in the Russian Wikipedia: http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A1%D0%BF%D0%B8%D1%81%D0%BE%D0%BA_%D0%B1%D1%8B%D0%B2%D1%88%D0%B8%D1%85_%D0%BD%D0%B0%D1%81%D0%B5%D0...

Re: Pics from the Eastern Front 1941-42

Cassandra, You're very welcome. Translating from Russian is nearly impossible in Google, but it works well for translations from German. This three-volume reference, German Order of Battle by Samuel W. Mitcham ( http://www.amazon.com/German-Order-Battle-One-Stackpole/dp/0811734161/ref=sr_1_31?s=book...

Re: Pics from the Eastern Front 1941-42

Hi Cassandra, From the uniform in the photos definitely not Luftwaffe, and not SS. He was in Heer. If he was in Rzhev area in June 1942 it might help to guess which division he was in. The documents that you posted in another thread said that he was from Darkehmen/Angerapp area in East Prussia. Dark...

Re: Pics from the Eastern Front 1941-42

Judging by the log houses the pictures could be taken in Byelorussia, Central or North Russia, or maybe in North Ukraine (north of Kiev). Definitely not in Central or South Ukraine and not in South Russia. If you know what Wehrmacht unit your great-uncle served in, it is possible to look up the plac...

Re: Heeresgruppe Weichsel and Battle of Berlin Sources

Stephan, You're right, the site is very cumbersome to use, but the information is great. The map title is Инженерная оборона Юго-Западной части г. Берлина (author - Оперативное Управление штаба 1 Украинского фронта). When you click on the Берлинская Операция option, and then click on Искать, the map...

Re: Heeresgruppe Weichsel and Battle of Berlin Sources

For those who can read in Russian, the online Russian state archive of WWII documents http://www.podvignaroda.ru/ is a treasure trove for scans of the original Soviet maps and reports on the Battle of Berlin. The maps were used to report the situation of the moment during the Battle of Berlin. The p...

Re: Welcome to the forum, tell us about yourself!

Hi, I've been visiting this forum for awhile. Time to introduce myself here! I'm in my 40's and live with my American husband and child in Oregon, USA. I was born in Moscow, the USSR, and lived most of my life there. Naturally, WWII was a big part of my family history. My grandmother's sister with h...

Re: Partisans, Don bend, 1942?

Yes, there were partisans in Rostov-Stalingrad-Voronezh area in 1942. This website has a map showing Soviet partisan activity in the German-occupied territories in 1941-1942. Red dots mark locations of main partisan bases. http://dp60.narod.ru/image/maps/338.jpg According to the map, in November 194...
