How large percentage of the concentrationcampguards served at the frontline at some point? In which units? Was there a lot of circulation? I think a lot of them where in the totenkopfdivision right?

I remember a quote about wiking from some interview with a russian soldier.
he said something along the lines of "they were fanatical soldiers, they did not retreat".

Is newyear a pain for old soldiers?

Im just wondering if all the fireworks during new years are painful and unnerving for old soldiers or is it cool? Or civilian survivors from wars for that matter.

whether the specific events outlined in this mans diary happened I cannot vouch for, however there can be no arguement as to the behaviour of the Germans and their allies in the Warsaw Uprising, although the razing of a city is nothing new, it is relatively a unigue occurence in modern times. I wou...

I suppose that launching a massive smokescreen alerts the enemy that you're coming - and it may be counterproductive; if the enemy can't see you, then you can't see him. I guess if you'r...

smokescreens?

How common was it to use smokescreens before attacks? From what Ive read it seems to have been fairly uncommon, yet the few times Ive read about it it usually seems to be successfull. The best examples are probably the germans in ww1 in... 1918 i believe. So whats the problem? Sure wind, but the fac...

waffen-ss were perhaps a bit more fanatical though because they were usually shot out of hand by the russians? So they preferred to fight to the death rather than surrender, or am I wrong? You really think that a Heer soldier was very keen on going into russian captivitiy?? \Christoph well, a great...
