Sid, I never said they were occupied by the Germans. I know the history and from what I was told the Germans didn't destroy Romania in 1944 since I have been to Moldova and talked to the villagers. The Germans treated them fairly even during the retreat but the Russians are a completely different st...

I am not sure whether this is info is correct or not, I read somewhere that small splinter cells of legionnaires based in West Germany returned to Romania in the late 40s (1946-1949) to start the anti-Bolshevik resistance. More extraordinary is that some of these legionnaires were reputed to be par...

Weltspiegel films
Does anyone have any information on the Degeto Weltspiegel films? Are they newsreels, propoganda films? Also looking for a list of the films with the Folge numbers and titles. I just went through the ones I have trying to read them off the film with a small light. Working on getting a projector. Her...

Sid, Actually have the book and using it! Talked to some veterans of the 7th SS, the division wasn't sent into Romania but a small part of it was, according to them and guess they would know, to hopefully stop the Soviet thrust through the Balkans. The maps I have are of western Romania and Moldavia...

Ok, As from the previous posts/replies talking about my wife's grandfather being an officer, he was a 2nd Lt. (translated the letter says sub lieutenant, first degree of officer), graduating from the Officer Training School in Sibiu a year before. His name is Grigoriu Gheorghe. Victor or Sid, any id...

If you mean by 2nd front the Allied invasion in Normandy, I would have to wonder since the North African campaign was going on and eventually the invasion of Italy as well! I don't think this would have made a difference since the Soviets were being supplied via ports in the north and through the Mi...

Defense of Iasi-Chisinau 1944
Ok, After taking time off and going to Iasi and my wife's family visiting here in NJ, finally able to get back (can't wait to hear from Sid and Victor again). After reading on the defense of Iasi in 1944 and hunting for Luftwaffe and Heer/SS maps on the region I have tracked down some areas of fight...

Romanian forces assisted with the capture of Rostov as well! The Romanian army was heavily involved in the campaigns in the region which allowed other German units to be allocated elsewhere. In fact, Romania assisted the German army more than the other axis allies plus provided the second most use o...

Romanian Campaign in 1941-1942
Ok, can anyone give me some info on the following items. My wife's grandfather sent me a letter detailing his participation in the war. From his letter, he was in the 7 Rosioro Iasi Calvary Regiment. His unit crossed the River Prut and the Nistru in Bassarabia then became involved in the fight for O...
