RSI Anti Sub ship CS 13 "Antonio Landi"

I have some pictures of this ship in her original three masted schooner rig. I understand she was modified by the Marina Nazionale Repubblicana as a cacciasomergilbili Subchaser late 1943 or so. The May 2008 Issue of Storia Militare has a photo that suggests she had her masts cut down and a 102mm ad...

Thanks. I'm wondering more now if it is a former French Air-Sea Rescue boat.

Thanks for the feedback!

Unknown German Air- Sea rescue craft- S. France 1944

Here are two photos of a rescue craft used to surrender to US forces off Southern France September 1944: http://sudwall.superforum.fr/La-Bataille-de-Provence-et-La-Liberation-du-sud-de-la-France-f28/Vedette-de-l-US-Navy-a-Ratoneau-t444.htm I have never seen a boat of this type and it is not like the...

Are you implying that the RN impression of a loud, confusing battle at night is anything but infallible?

I always thought those figures looked a little inflated. Have you checked Groener's listings on MFPs?

Question on new book on Sicherungsstreitkräfte

Does anyone have this book? "Die unbekannte Flotte. Die Sicherungsstreitkräfte der Kriegsmarine (Gebundene Ausgabe)" by Richard Lakowski http://www.amazon.de/Die-unbek.....mp;sr=1-11 I am interested as to what illustrations it has, especially of these craft in the Mediterranean, Aegean and...

Jean-Philippe Dallies-Labourdette's book "S-Boote: German E-boats in Action 1939-1945" on page 89 lists the two German boats invoved in this action as S-153 and S-154. Is there a good history of the MS boats out there? They seem to be left out in many histories in favor of the MAS boats. T...

Al, OK, I'm busted. I was too lazy to walk upsatirs and get "At Close Quarters." The Sicily/Italy encounter was August 15/16 with PTs 205, 215 and 217 engaed in a running battle with two S-boats. These, according to Historie and Collections "S-boats at War" were S-151 clas...

In reality, USN PT boats actually fought S-boats a few times: -One engagement possibly off the N. African coast May 1943 (S-boats not identified- could have been Italian MS boats). Battle broken up by RN destroyers who started firing at both sides. -Off Sicily August 1943 - Three Higgins boats vs. t...

The latest ( arrived September 29) Warship International had a few pages on these small craft. There is a drawing of a Hydra and brief mention that they were used in 1945- no details.

Al,
I thought I had something for you from a book I have on Kuestenjaeger, but basically all it describes are the plans they had for "Operation Rice Harvest." No details on the history of RA10 are given.

Photos of Northern Italian and Adriatic ports

I am looking for photos of Axis held ports such as Grenoa, La Spezia, Leghorn, Fiume, etc. in 1944 and 1945 that show shipping and warships. I am researching German and RSI escort craft and transports in these waters late 1944 to the end of the war. Rather than beat the bushes for specific ship phot...
