Re: Officers Dagger

While Navy daggers also can be found with different colored grips, the scabbards weren't silver plated.

Re: Officers Dagger

It can be very hard to trace a dagger back to it's original owner just by initials.

Re: Officers Dagger

If the grip is orange in color,I doubt it's ivory. An off-white color would be more normal for ivory. The grip is probably what is called trolon. If the scabbard is silver plated,I suspect it's either an Army or Air Force dagger. When you say it has initials on the hilt,do you mean on the crossguard? He...

I was going to ask if he was a NCO,but didn't think of it in time for my first post.I can agree with you that if the person wasn't an Officer or a NCO,then he probably wouldn't have been issued a sword.Plus it seemed odd that they would still be issueing swords at such a late date.

Have you noticed how a duck walks? It has a distinct waddle:i.e.: To walk heavily and clumsily with a pronounced sway.Since the vehicle in question was nose heavy,I presume it had a sort of sway to it when driven, hence the nickname-duck.

Seitengewehr is for a bayonet or sidearm, while saeble is a sword or sabre. So I believe the item in the Soldbuch is for a sword and not a bayonet.

While the Russian T-34 and the German Panther usually get the vote for best all around tank of WW2,the American M-26 Pershing could have been a serious contender for the title. If the U.S. had landed at Normandy equipped with Pershings instead of Shermans, the Pershing would have been a much more resp...

The RZM marking does look a little odd,but it does match the maker. Most repros I've seen are usually in minty or ex+ condition, while this one has been used and abused. But Simon brings up a good point about the 60's fakes aging. $50 USD for a HJ knife?I was looking at a stone mint early HJ by Eickhor...

I'm sure there are reproductions of East German daggers, but I can't find a site that sells them. You might find one on Ebay.I'm not sure what cheap is to you,but here is a link to a real one(and the seller is top notch,in my opinion).
